The layout
GM Authority's coverage of the 2011 Silverado HD and Chevrolet's 2024 announcement both describe independent front suspension with torsion bars and a hydraulic recirculating-ball box. MotorTrend explains that this kind of IFS steers through a centerlink with a pitman arm and an idler arm, plus inner and outer tie rods.
Newer trucks
Chevrolet and The Drive report that GM's 2027 heavy-duty pickups switch to rack-and-pinion electric power steering. Parts for those trucks are different, so confirm your model year.
Buying notes
- Idler arm, centerlink, pitman arm and tie rod ends wear as a system. Inspect them together.
- Lift kits on IFS trucks change geometry, so follow the lift maker's steering parts list.
- Box and pump must match (see pumps).
