What it does
The track bar (also called a panhard bar) runs from the frame to the axle and stops it moving side to side. When you lift the truck, the axle sits off-center unless the bar is adjustable or relocated. Thuren and Torque King both cover this for coil-sprung Rams.
What to compare
- Adjustable length to re-center the axle after a lift.
- Joint and bushing type at each end: rubber, poly, or a greaseable joint. Each trades noise, feel and service.
- Bar strength and diameter, as with other linkage (see materials).
- Angle relative to the drag link (see drag links).
Quick check
Drivingline lists a loose track bar or worn track bar bushings among the most common death wobble causes. With a helper rocking the wheel, watch both ends for movement.
Questions
Do I need an adjustable track bar after a lift?
Usually, because a lift moves the axle off-center. Follow your lift maker's instructions.
